PRODUCT DESCRIPTION

Construction joints are particularly weak points in a below grade structure and as the nature of pressurized water is to target the path of least resistance, substandard joint sealing could potentially cause extensive damage to your structure.

Cemswell hydrophilic swelling rubber has been developed for the successful sealing of joints up to 5 bar water pressure and is specifically suited for prefabricated elements. Available in various standard sizes but can also be extruded into any user-defined shape and size.

Application – Where to use CEMSWELL

CEMswell is designed- and specifically suitable for sealing of joints in prefabricated elements in the construction of basements, tunnels and mine shafts.

CEMswell is specifically developed to meet the most difficult challenges such as shield-driven tunnels. Shield-driven tunnels are a common feature in the construction of subways, water supply and sewer systems in cities, tunnels, cable laying, etc.

Recent trends in shield-driven tunnels have been towards new
applications, increase and decrease in section size, and also construction at greater depths or under the seabed where measures against highpressure water are of vital importance.

Main areas of application:

  • Vertical and horizontal joints in prefabricated elements
  • Basements, tunnels, mine shafts
  • Saltwater applications such as construction at greater depths or under the seabed
  • The round profile can be used to successfully seal tie-bolt holes

Technology – How does CEMSWELL work?

CEMswell Hydrophilic Swelling Rubber is an expanding joint sealing profile which swells upon contact with water, while remaining dimensionally stable. It is an extruded TPE-based compound made from rubber, hydrophilic resin, polyethylene, silicone and special admixtures.

On contact with water it is capable of swelling up to 4 times its own volume. CEMswell reliably seals on contact with water by a controlled expansion under confinement in the joint.

The sealing effect is attained through the developing swelling pressure even if the surrounding surfaces are rough and the joint gaps to be filled are of an uneven size.

The expansion process is reversible which means that CEMswell can perform multiple swelling cycles.

Please note that CEMswell is primarily designed for the sealing of prefabricated concrete elements.

WHY CHOOSE CEMSWELL®?

Superior waterproofing technology

On contact with water CEMswell is capable of swelling up to 4 times its own volume and under conditions of confinement will mold itself to the surrounding surfaces producing a water-tight seal.

Secures structural integrity – For life

CEMswell is specifically developed to meet the most difficult challenges such as sealing prefabricated elements for shield-driven tunnel construction, as well as construction at greater depths or under the seabed where measures against high-pressure water are of vital importance.

CEMswell is capable of performing multiple swelling cycles

Less labor-intensive

Simple to install with either adhesive or fixing rail/bar

Main benefits of CEMSWELL

Optimal for prefabricated elements that will be subjected to high water pressure (tested up to 5 bar/50m)
Capable of performing multiple swelling cycles
The round profile is also suitable for sealing tie-bolt holes
Approved for use in wastewater applications as well as slurry / animal manure, and saltwater applications
